Hi All, A question about mixing Servo and steppers. I'm currently running three axis with servos, and have been thinking about adding a 4th. Mentioning this to a local freelance engineer who has taken some interest in my LinuxCNC retrofit, he suggested he had some steppers and drivers he'll be willing to give me. They were bought for a prototype paint line in a local manafacturing plant and have had only had around 15 hours of work. They were an EBay buy, Nema 34 12Nm (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEMA34-NEMA23-12Nm-8-5Nm-4-5Nm-3Nm-2-2Nm-Closed-Loop-Stepper-Drive-Motor-Kit-CNC/112373702548?hash=item1a29fe9f94:m:mkaanovVt5v3OPJFhuqjl8w).
My question is, since I have no experience with steppers, how nicely will LinuxCNC play with a mixed servo / stepper setup? I'm currently running with a Mesa 5i20, 7i33, 7i42 and 7i37. Can I make use of this succesfully, with the current boards, or will something need to change?
