If still driven by step-dir signals, which according to the pix they are, 
then mesa probably has the interface cards to use. I'm partial to the 
7i90HD, with 3 7i42TA's to keep the noises and surges out of the 
delicate 3.3 volt fpga in the 7i90.  Gives you 72 total pins of i/o and 
your choice of stepper or servo drives. That and a pi are running my 
sheldon lathe with all sorts of gingerbread in the gui dept. Independant 
x/z dials on the apron to replace the hand cranks. I've i/o I haven't 
figured out a use for, rare in most builds.
