That is the first problem with VFDs - the cost does not include the inductors - both on the line side and the motor side. - You can get away with not using them - but they will often bite you at the worst time - computer crashes - radio interference - voltage spikes can even break other things in your house..


The other problem is while you can slow and speed things up a bit - get in-between speeds for a lot of things - the actual power drops off. If you need continuous duty - you really need a special motor. They are not a substitute for a transmission or fan-belt pulleys..
