----------empyre- soft-skinned space----------------------
Many thanks to Marcus Boon and his guest Douglas Khan and Nina Eidsheim for
highlighting the discussion around Douglas' book EARTH AND SOUND EARTH SIGNAL.
The ensuing discussion around sound, electromagnetism, vibration and so much
more provided another thread into our discussion New Sonic Paths: Sound Studies
Expanded. Both Nina and Marcus spend the 2011 to 2012 academic year at
Cornell as fellows at the Society for the Humanities during the year devoted to
"Sound Cultures." http://www.arts.cornell.edu/sochum/ft_11_12.html It has been
nostalgic to bring them together virtually this past week. Thanks them both of
them and Douglas who so generously allowed all of us to peak into his
fascinating research and book.

This month on -empyre we have invited four sound specialists to discuss
emerging topics involving sound. As we thank Marcus Book we will be Introducing
Jim Drobnick for Week 3 momentarily.
