Onno On Mac OS X, using a recent nightly (should behave identical to 1.6 in this respect), the menu item iself is always visible in the OpenPGP menu independent of the "Hide Expert settings". Generally, menu handling is different on Mac OS X having only one menu at top of the screen, not at the top of the windows, this may explain the difference. If you have selected "Automatically decrypt/verify messages", Enigmail will do so. If you have deselected this option, Enigmail shows nothing in the message header pane for text/plain signed or encrypted messages (like Ono's). For PGP/MIME signed message (like dkg's) it will show "Possibly PGP/MIME encrypted or signed message; click Decrypt button to verify" with a grey background. PGP/MIME encrypted (or encrypted+signed) messages, will be decrypted automatically despite the setting not to do so.
