If you don't find a solution to have 2 and be abble to rename nautilus icons, please don't apply patch to pre8 because with patch Follow Pointer and Follow sloppy pointer are the same option.
But the patch will also allow you to navigate the desktop icons with the arrow keys.
The thing that is missing is the possiblity to set a "click to focus" option on a window (the nautilus desktop). I hope to get this fixed some day together with other focus issues.
I assume the "ewin->fixedpos = 1;" is still desirable. It prevents dragging the desktop e.g. using the pager.
