You may want to start with why you are using E over KDE and GNOME. For me it is about the bandwidth between the computer and user. KDE/GNOME 2 and more so Microsoft significantly limit this bandwidth based off providing an easy to use/learn interface. (I think it has to do with HCI people getting in the mix.) I need my computer to work at least as fast as I do. With E it is possible, with the others it is very hard to accomplish, I simply can't get enough data fast enough to stay productive.
All of the eye candy is nice. But keyboard short cuts, multiple direction window shades, transparent window drags, Intelligent maximizing, Virtual Desktops, Point-to-focus, duel monitors, remembered windows are all part of making the Computer respond fast enough with enough data.
