My point was also that freedesktop is moving towards providing
standards for an incresing number of things. .desktop files are going
to be used in other areas than just menues (like associating
run-actions to mime-types etc...) and while in the past ignoring came
at really minor cost (and building a translation app should be easy)
it may nw prove more difficult.

Suppose for instance e17 gets a desktop with icons and dnd support
(this might come forth as a module). Peoples will expect to be abe to
drag a file and to have it opened by the default application when they
click on it.

Now there lies a difficult choice:eapps are better than .desktop files
(more robust and lighter to parse) however the rest of the world is
moving towards a general use of .desktop files and they will be more
and more present in the future.

This dilemna goes for a lot of different choices when you use a better
technology but it isn't standard what should be your choice?

At any rates I'd love to know the stance of enlightenment devellopers
(specially Rasterman) on this. This post wasn't about how the Ibar
etc.. should use .desktop files because this always been discussed and
I respect the choices that were made (and I now understand much better
the choices that were made regarding edb...).

On a simillar note I'd like to know if there is a prefere technology
for sound access (esd or other) for file access (is efsd dead) in the
future.

Since indexation and virtual filesystems is the next big thing if you
want to go with the flow there needs to be an integration in the EFK
at quite a low level (for instance the open dialogue in the ewl should
handle it.).

Sorry fo bugging everyone.
Till

P.S.: I repeat I did not intend to stire controversy. Within the past
months I have learned to respect the choices that were made and I know
that they all come from a long reflection and that no compromises
whatsoever where made.
