Don't forget that it's more complicated than that even. Edje depends on ephysics, but the merged efl tree will eventually be building edje before you can build ephysics. Perhaps the ephysics tests could be entirely edje based? Solves the elm dependency, and helps to test out the edje bindings. Hopefully ephysics will remain optional no matter how these problems are solved.
