I get your point, but you don't get mine. What you mention as "modern
file manager" is a copy of windows 95. Not even windows uses this
detailed list view by default since XP! :-) It's there because we
(nerds) like, and Microsoft is always pro-legacy, however in this game
they are not alone, every file manager (ugh, I hate them, ask Raster
or Cedric ;-P) offers detailed view.

We don't display the details, but there is a list view with icon at
the left and label on the right. Mouse over to show details. The order
is there, but not one-click access, you need 2 (right click, then
choose ordering). Given usability E17 is far better than the other
options.

This is being too dramatic. As I said, you can do it, just need way
more work than with Gtk or Qt. We do not recommend, but you can do.

Elementary is already too bloated in my opinion, and as I dislike this
I'd never consider coding it myself. Seems raster and others agree.
But if someone comes with a widget that have good code, I bet it would
be accepted/merged.
