i just checked. gnome terminal uses alt+1,2,3 etc. just like i just did... so we have a problem. lots of users want/expect this behavior and are asking for it. but at the same time you don't want it. i need to wait to hear if anyone objects to ctrl+Fn (conflicts with something else maybe?) so let's see. and yes... i know - the traditional solution we employ in e land here is...
