It just threw me since my fonts looked fine for these apps in KDE. I guess the KDE settings were overriding the Gnome settings. I'm all set now, but to answer your last question I run at 1920x1200 Widescreen resolution on an Nvidia GeForce card with 128MB video ram :-) It looks *lovely*!!
