This already happens, in the newest version of E17 you can set backgrounds for specific desktops, I know I have 8 desktops right now and about 5 different images.   The only downside is that with 1600x1200 backgrounds, this feels a little laggy (though it might be the animation that changes the backgrounds shown.

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this list, but I'd like to say that I also would find this
feature very useful.  I've first installed E17 about a week ago, and
been studying the code base.  Maybe in the future I can also
contribute some features I miss from E16.

If it's true that the internal design really cannot support the
addition of this feature, it would at least be possible to implement a
compromise option, where dragging a window far enough off the screen
would make it jump all the way to the adjacent desktop, right?  It's
not a substiture, but it's better than nothing.  Any ideas on that?

While we're discussing the desktop, there's another feature I use to
want to have had in E16 - to be able to have different backgrounds for
each screen - so you could e.g. take a panoramic view and spread it
across your entire virtual desktop.  Could E17 support a different
background per desktop if the user so desires?
