You're right, it is a big "thing". The fact that the module is called Everything is a giveaway of what a confusing behemoth it is. Anything that calls itself Everything always sets my alarm bells ringing - something that tries to be all things to all men will always fail. Setting a keybinding to show the exebuf plugin got me pretty close to the old exebuf, I've lived with it. You can click the 'Exebuf' button at the bottom to make it look more like the old exebuf, but I can't figure out how to make it the default view. Ranting aside, There's an exebuf module in E-MODULES-EXTRA. I don't know if this is the old version (i.e. what you have before), or whether it will conflict with the new version, but you can check it out.
