Hello. I think there's a plasmoid in KDE desktop (folder view) which offer this feature which allows recursivelly enter in the directories using this popups without having to click on them. In fact in this plasmoid you need to click in a small button in the first directory icon you want to enter, and it's recursive subdirectories are acceced via mouse over. This is probably the effect you desire.
