Strangely I *only* have udisks 2 and automounting just works™.  The only time 
I have noticed an error is unmounting the drive after I performed some heavy 
I/O on it, where it times out waiting to unmount it.  If I wait a couple of 
minutes and try again, then it unmounts it.
