yes - it's essentially the same - some things not there, but its the
equivalent. I actually see it as a bit of a stop-gap measure to something
better in future - we already have volume controls in window titlebars. A
little "recording source and input" would be far better there, but it does
seem the major apps i see that do video conferencing and recording have their
own selectors for input device, so it isn't a huge priority.

aaah yes. the joys of email spam... :( it's a never ending problem with no good
solution. the best solution i've found is what i have - my email goes through a
very small shared server i have with some old friends that we use together (and
the machine is also private too) - so only like only a few of us there and thus
it never becomes a source of spam thus doesn't get blocked. downside - it has
to keep up with latest verification schemes. if you share a large network or
mailserver with a lot of people then changes of it becoming a spam source go
up. :(
