I have a thinkpad here and it doesn't do anything like this (or i've never heard the plugging/unplugging sounds unless i actually plug or unplug). i'd rather get to the bottom of this. does /sys/class/power_supply/XXX (where XXX are the names of your AC and BAT devices) actually mess up and sometimes report the power supply as not online?
