Hi everyone, Thanks to all the kind responses! I don't want to take up more of anyone's time on this, except to say:
Billo, I wasn't aware the C2's supported FTP transfer of firmware. Michael, I hadn't tried tftp32 but your the second person who has suggested this (thanks Kerr) so I'll keep it in my back pocket, as well as Solarwinds. Oh, I forgot to mention, one of the tftp servers that failed to work was Netsight Atlas (ver 2.1.3) However as mentioned in my original post, since upgrading from 02.01.37 to 05.00.xx via XMODEM over the serial cable, the switches then WORKED with the tftp servers that the older version previously didn't, so I still reckon the older firmware malforms tftp packets. I guess I'll not get to the bottom of it as I don't have time to test different firmware/tftp server combinations, especially having had problems downgrading then upgrading again in the past :/ Regards, Andy -----Original Message----- From: Michael York [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: 20 August 2010 05:06 To: Enterasys Customer Mailing List Subject: RE: [enterasys] Firmware Upgrade Probably due to slight differences in the implementation of tftp. Try using a different tftp server application. The one I have found best for the C2 is TFTP32. I have seen this in the past so I keep 2 apps in my kit for the job. I recently had BIG problems attempting to upgrade C2's running 02.01.37. They just would NOT download any image (or even config file) from a tftp server. I'm sufficiently experienced to try all the obvious, like making sure the tftp server is in the same subnet as the switch, filename is 8.3 notation, trying different tftp servers etc. I could ping the device from the server and vice versa, but I was getting an error (on 3CDaemon) saying something like "Unexpected TFTP request", which leads me to think there was a malformed tftp packet from the switch. I eventually had to download firmware via XMODEM, a very painful experience even at max baud rate, given I had 9 switches to upgrade! Once running on this interim firmware, I had no problems using tftp to download the final version. Upgrading from 5.0.x to 5.2 won´t work and i encountered similar issues. So, first upgrade to 5.1 and then to 5.2. Hope this helps! Mit freundlichen Grüßen i.A.
