It is 24 ports at a full 15.4 watts. If you have devices that only require 10
watts of power, you can support 36 of them on a B2/B3 or C2/C3. The PoE
switches return any unused power back to the central pool so it can be
allocated to other ports. The PoE logic works as follows:

* Determine the PoE Class of the device

o Class 1 - up to 4.0 watts

o Class 2 - up to 7.0 watts

o Class 3 - up to 15.4 watts

* Confirm that PoE power pool has enough power for the maximum power
for the class

* Provide power to the port

* Monitor the actual power usage of the port (in my example, it is 10
watts)

* Return unused power (15.4 - 10.0 or 5.4 watts) to the pool for
allocation to other ports

So the 500 watt power supply provides 370 watts of PoE power that can power the
maximum number of ports based upon the following calculation:

Max # PoE Ports = ROUNDDOWN(1 + (370 watts - Device
Class Power)/Actual Power Consumption))

So for Class 3 devices that only draw 8 watts of PoE power, the calculation
would be;

Max # PoE Ports = ROUNDDOWN(1 + (370 watts - 15.4
watts)/8))
                                                = ROUNDDOWN(1 +
(354.6)/8))
                                                = ROUNDDOWN(1 +
44.32)
                                                = 45

I hope this helps.

Is that 24 ports at 15.4w or is it 24 ports no matter the power requirement of
the device?

Hi,

B2/B3/C2/C3 switches are only able to serve a little bit more than 24 ports
with PoE, doesn't matter if 24 or 48 port switch. For PoE calculations, only
use the number 24 on any kind of the above switches.

Cheers,
Markus

Hello all and happy new year!

I have a question that I'm not able to resolve with documentation on Enterasys
website

I use a B3 48 POE ports
In datasheet, the switch can deliver only 370W
It's not enough if I connect 48 PD (PoE Device) (48*15,4 = 739W)

What is the behavior if I add a C2RPS-POE?

Can I use the power of the RPS in addition of the power of the switch if I need
more than 370W for my PD?

Thank you for your help
