James is correct.  We're seeing slow responses from searches from the address 
bar, but not with other connections, so assumed the assumed the root cause  
wasn't with Firefox but with our Firewall (as it manages the internet traffic).

Using the search bar (as you pointed out) doesn't trigger the delay, so is a 
good workaround.

Something we've noticed is that searches from the address bar won't trigger the 
delay if done immediately after the first search resolves.  Then after a couple 
of minutes the delay is triggered again.
