Despite my years of being a "power" mac user, I have never really played
around with ram disks. I guess I've been fortunate enough to always have
been able to buy fast machines and lots of RAM whenever I needed a speed
boost, so it's just never come up!

But now I've decided to give ram disks a try, just to satisfy my curiosity
:)

I have a G4 Cube running OS 9.2.1 with 1.5 GB RAM, and a dual-USB iBook 500
with 576 MB RAM running OS X 10.1.1. OS X performance on my iBook is smooth
and fast enough, and I am really digging Office X - E'rage X actually seems
to run much faster than E'rage 2001 does on my Cube, despite having 50 MB of
RAM allocated to it and archiving my monstrous mail files weekly to keep my
database down below 50 MB. I also do regular database rebuilds for good
measure.

I'm becoming spoiled by the speed of E'rage on my iBook, but I use my Cube
at home 90% of the time, and I'd like to find a way to speed it up. My Cube
system is stable, solid as a rock. Everything behaves well and crashes are
very few and very far between, but I've noticed that E'rage has become very
sluggish - especially when it comes to HTML email, which I get all too
often.

I'm wondering if placing my MS User Data Folder in a RAM disk (using
ramBunctious) would speed it up a tad? Or running the entire app of a ram
disk? I read everywhere of people using ram disks for their browser cache
and Photoshop scratch disks, but I haven't heard about other applications
that might make sense for me.

Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions or advise? I'm on digest, so a CC
to my email address is appreciated, but not required.

Thanks,

Laurie
