It sounds as if it's related to a worse (because more commonly encountered)
bug. Checking news groups on a news server requiring a password fails on
every new launch until you open up the account (which you can do more easily
by control-clicking on the news server in the Folder List). You can the
close it without making any alteration whatever, it will will start working,
and continue until you quit Entourage. it must re-authorize the password by
checking what's entered in the account window.
