IrDA (actually IrCOMM) connections from the Palm to a cell phone are
possible. Depending on the firmware in the phone, you may have some level of
support for beaming a contact to the phone. In the Nokia series, it is
possible to beam a contact from a palm to a phone, and the contact will be
stored with the first phone number in the Palm's list of numbers. Note that
more complex contact records may have problems - for a Nokia, complex
contacts are ignored (making it likely that your most important records
cannot be beamed). You will need to experiment. It should also be possible
to send a contact from the phone to the Palm.

For messaging support, you will need to upgrade to Palm OS 4, which allows
you to write a message on a Palm and transmit it via SMS to another cell
phone. That is very handy feature - which you can also use to transmit any
Palm record.
