I just moved machines, from my aging Powerbook G3 Lombard to a fancy new G4 667.
I installed office X (upgrade) on the new laptop, and copied my User folder over. All apps appear to be working perfectly, apart from one very strange issue with Excel. With one file (a timesheet with a simple image) it consistently refuses to open with the message "Error in loading DLL". No mention of what DLL, and no message to the console. It worked fine with the same files on the old laptop, and it works fine with all other spreadsheets I use. Even more strange, if I fire up classic and run and quit Excel 97, Excel v.X will open the funky file without a hitch !!! If I then save it as a copy, Excel X will always open it again, even after a reboot, but it still refuses to open the original ! My guess is it is using some element from Office 97, but my preferences are pointing to the version on my old laptop. I tried to reinstall by recopying the Apps from the office CD, but this didn't cure the problem. Perhaps it comes from my office preferences. Anyway, my question. How do I totally delete office X, including any hidden DLLs or preferences, for a fresh reinstall (upgrade) without losing my Entourage preferences and e-mail DB ? (The last sentence is why I'm posting here !) Cheers Guy PS DLL is windows only term - why is Excel trying to load a DLL - shouldn't it be "Shared Library?" and why isn't it telling me which one ! PPS Is there an e-mail address I can send bug reports for Excel ? -- To unsubscribe: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> archives: <http://www.mail-archive.com/entourage-talk%40lists.letterrip.com/> old-archive: <http://www.mail-archive.com/entourage-talk%40lists.boingo.com/>
