Having worked in service I know that "they would if they could" means one of two things. 1) the drive was toast (obviously not in this case) or 2) if we can find the drive (or can be bothered to try to find the drive). By the time you got the call the service had already been done and the drive was in a pile ready to be given to their warranty specialist who will contact the manufacturer to get the warranty replacement. By this time it was too late unless someone at Apple Service was willing to go beyond and above. > I got it back empty. And it is possible for a computer to just plain disappear. I wound up with a new computer years ago because the store caught fire. That was a mess. The store disavowed any responsibility and my insurance company finally paid.
