I have Retrospect set up to do a verify after each backup. This means that
it reads each (just-created) backup file and compares it to the source file
to ensure data integrity and ability to do a restore. If the data in a file
changes between the time of the backup and the time of the verify, usually a
few minutes, there will be an error in the log. Usually this is
inconsequential and not a cause for concern. The backup file is still OK,
but does not contain the most recent change(s).

But Paul Welty is describing a different pattern of events. He describes a
situation where the file changes between the initial scan and the backup of
a file. I have not yet seen Retrospect report an error for this situation.
And I don't know why it would cause Retrospect to fail to backup the file.

I am using Retrospect 5.0 Desktop to backup 3 Macs: one running OS X 10.1.5,
a client running X 10.1.5, and another client runningh 9.2.2. Two of these
Macs have Entourage X SR1 installed.
