Isn't this rather a case of the sympthomology indicating that the original
approach is rather badly borken and should be take out back and shot in
preparation for a complete refactoring of that function? :-)

Seems to me I've seen this complaint for a very long time now, and always
with vague and very odd descriptions of what exactly will cause it. I know
if it were my software I'd probably toss in the towel right about now and
reimplement the problematic feature in a different way.

Well, you've got me there.   I have no idea what any of those have to do with
SGML. Next you'll be claiming that running NSGMLS constitutes an unauthorized
