You can turn smoothing off in Word, too, for a similar speedup. Well, I'm on a G3 myself - an old 350 CPU one - and I don't find Entourage slow. My database currently is about 250 MB in size, as well. But I have 768 MB RAM - that's the secret, You need 512 MB RAM to fell really comfortable at those sizes, and more is better. On my iBook, with a smaller database, I have a 600 CPU G3 processor, and only 384 MB RAM. That combination is also fast - maybe faster in fact.
