I followed your advice, and then got this error message:

The SMTP server for "Richard mail" does not recognize any of the authentication methods supported by Entourage. To send mail, try disabling SMTP authentication in the account settings or talk to your administrator.

Maybe I’ll just live with occasionally having to try sending it again.
