I have Entourage X (Office X 10.1.2 update) running in Mac OS X 10.2.4. I'm
still struggling to find a configuration of Entourage X settings that will
work compatibly with my IMAP account at the University of Washington. Based
on advice I had gleaned from the web and this list, I was running with the
following settings:

Edit Account
    Account settings
Include this account in my "Send & Receive All" Schedule = ON
    Options
Send commands to server simultaneously = OFF
        Live Sync = OFF
Check for unread messages in subscribed folders = ON
    Advanced
Move [deleted] messages to the "Deleted Items" folder = ON
Empty "Deleted Items" folder on quit = ON
Delete messages older than 7 days

But I was seeing a variety of flaky behaviors. One example: Entourage
showed items in my local "Deleted Items" folder that would not go away.
These messages were no longer on the server. Another example: the same
message would appear as multiple items in one of my IMAP folders.
Suspecting database corruption, I did an Advanced Rebuild of my Entourage
DB, and the bogus items were gone.

I contacted a senior engineer who is the resident Mac expert in the UW
computing support department. He recommended that I try a different config
for my account settings:

Edit Account
    Account settings
Include this account in my "Send & Receive All" Schedule = OFF
    Options
Send commands to server simultaneously = OFF
        Live Sync = ON
Only connect to INBOX = ON
Check for unread messages in subscribed folders = OFF

I also made the following change:

    Advanced
Mark [deleted] messages as deleted = ON
Purge deleted messages when quitting Entourage = ON

I am still seeing peculiar behaviors. Often when I click on one of my IMAP
account folders (INBOX, Drafts, Sent Items), the Progress window indicates
"Receiving messages" with the rotating icon, and hangs in that state. If I
cancel and try again, the folder updates normally.

Any additional tips or guidance on how to choose these settings would be
greatly appreciated. The Help files provide no insights, and I feel like I
am picking lottery numbers.
