I've seen something similar with entourage over the last year, not your exact problem but rather entourage would start to die and the database file would just get huge- and there just weren't enough messages to justify the size (2-3gigs). Not even close... Ie, quite literally the database went from 30megs and over aperiod of time just shot up. Couldn't figure it out to save my life, did all the tricks mentioned to you. Turned out to have something to do with emails that had attachments, either saved or in the sent items folder. Nothing else solved it except going through and removing any message I could find with an attachment, and for good measure turning off any automatic links and such. Deleted them, rebuilt, and it worked fine. I can only guess that there is something weird in how entourage's database deals with some attachments, or in how it saves them... Had it happen with a clients computer too, and doing the above fixed it, and I worked with someone via email who I tried to help with the same issue- his hasn't been fixed, it jumped from 30 to a few gigs and then dropped to 300 doing the above, but it keeps growing dramatically.
