If you upgrade to OS 10.3, you can use the user-switching feature to
have 2 users signed in simultaneously with Entourage running in each.

I'm not sure if this will work, but you could try duplicating your
Office 2001 folder and running 2 copies of Entourage at the same time in
2001 against different identities. I'd strongly recommend a backup
first, though.

Our idea of checking mail on multiple identities "in the background" was
intended to get the spam downloaded over the dial-up line while we are
accomplishing something else.  It would be convenient to get On a
dial-up
line, it can be very beneficial to keep up with the downloads.  That is
the
"difference" it can make, even though we can only be in one identity at
a
time.

We do concurrent mail-checking that now with multiple accounts, but they
all
share an address book.
