Cmd-1 opens a new Mail window. Try Cmd-2; it opens the Address Book in the
same main window (bringing it front if needed). The other
features--Calendar, Tasks, Notes, Custom Views--are on subsequent numbers.
Check the View->GoTo menu for a list of the shortcuts.

To open a feature in a new window, just add Option to the above, e.g.,
Cmd-Option-2 to open Address Book in a new window.
