Title: Re: Assistance with inaccessible Hotmail account

For the last 3 weeks, Entourage (latest vX) have been unable to access my
Hotmail account. I've double checked all the settings and there's no errors
there. And I have deleted the said account and recreated it without any
improvement. Initially I thought it was just a problem on Hotmail's server
end but it wasn't the case as I've recreated the same account through
another user account on my Powerbook and it connected and transacted
normally. So it's clearly something to do with the settings within my user
environment.

Does anyone have any suggestion as to what pref file I should try to delete
and reset? I have some 10 email accounts and really don't want to recreate
them all again.

Thanks for any pointers.

The first thing you need to do is determine where the problem is located so you can take the appropriate steps to correct the problem.
  1. Is my database corrupt?
  2. Is it a conflict in my User's folder (corrupt preferences).
  3. Is it a bad message?

1) Is my database corrupt?
Create a new identity to eliminate corruption in current identity:
Entourage 2001: File-Switch Identity>Select New Entourage X: Entourage menu>Switch Identity>Select New
You'll probably have to re-enter some account info to test, but try to recreate the problem there.
If the problems go away, then you know the problem is in your database. If it doesn't work, then this indicates a problem with your Entourage install or a conflict in your User's folder.
2) Is it a conflict in my User's folder?
If the problem existed in a new identity then create a new User. This will eliminate corruption or conflicts in your User Folder:
In System Preferences: Users:
Create a new user.
Log Out/In to new user.
Open Entourage and see if the problems go away. (You might need to recreate your account info.)
If problems disappear then you know it's a conflict or corruption in your user folder. Use “Remove Office” and reinstall Office and all updates. You will need your CD key.
3) Is it a bad messages?
Check with a web browser for a bad message. Usually it will be the oldest message.
