Hard to say.
I'm using Entourage X and it does get hung up on those pesky things every
once and again.
Since, as has been noted, it really is a server issue, maybe it has to do
with how they are dealing with it, and how your email client responds to
THAT.
I noticed this kind of thing start happening about 2 years ago. I was still
on PC's then and two different email clients I know of would do exactly the
same thing. At that point my email host was using Windows2000 Server with
VOPmail. Now they're running all Linux and I'm on Mac. There are still
times when things go a little off the tracks, but a little differently.

As for "2004", I know nothing about it. As long as things are working well,
I never change anything without that there is something substantially new
and valuable. So unless it fixes the couple of things that "X" doesn't do
for me, I ain't budgin'. I guess that makes me the very kind of person
that has caused Microsoft to start heading towards a licensee contract
instead of a manufacturer/customer relationship. :-)

Wish I had more to help with.
