Bob,

I remember this coming up as part of a discussion of a TV program "After Man,"
A quick search on the internet found a photo album on the North Wilkesboro
Speedway, an original North Carolina NASCAR track that was abandoned in 1996.

Wilkepedia says: The track is located on U.S. Route 421 about four miles east
of the town of North Wilkesboro, North Carolina. It measures 5/8ths of a mile
(0.625 miles (1.006 km)). A unique feature was the uphill backstretch and the
downhill front stretch. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Wilkesboro_Speedway

There might be others, but I couldn't find any.

Subject: [ENTS] Park location (some help, please)

About a year or so ago I read about a new park in NC. It had to be a
county park, I think. Here is what I recall reading about it:

Partly located on an abandoned quarry.

Some steep hills and minor cliffs (possibly associated with the old
  quarry).

Here's the weirdest part: A section of the park is an old NASCAR
sanctioned race track complete with concrete bleachers and press boxes
all going to rot and being overtaken by forest.

Does anyone here have any idea where this park is located and what its
  name is.

  Thanks!

  JRS.
