Steve,

 

If that's correct then this tree is at it's northern most range here in
Southeast Pa.  It is also growing near the top of a hill several hundred
feet above the nearest stream.  I have seen this in other areas as well.  I
thought they prefer to grow in flood plains.  My information source was the
National Audubon Society  Field Guide To Trees .  Thanks for the quick
response.

My son and I were out measuring trees today and could use some help
identifying this oak tree.  There were a few leaves still holding onto a
lower limb that look like a chestnut oak.  I have attached a few pictures of
the leaf and bark.
