Keep in mind that Q. michauxii will hydridize with other white oaks.
That is the reason I posed the question as to what other oaks were in
the area.

I have also seen trees where environmental conditions greatly affect
the color or depth of tone of the bark.

I'm not sure of the procedure for submitting the tree as a champion,
but I would think you may have to type the DNA of the tree if there is
some question as to whether it is Q. michauxii.

How large are the scarlet oak in the area?  I would like to have a few
of those acorns?
