Panda Software reports that W32/Dadinu is spreading, as
demonstrated by the number of inquiries it has received through its
international technical support network from users whose computers have
been infected. Moreover, Dadinu is now third in the ranking of the most
frequently detected viruses by Panda ActiveScan.

Dadinu
is an e-mail worm programmed in Delphi, which sends itself out to all of
the contacts in the Microsoft Messenger Address Book. It stands out from
other malicious code for being the first to infect files with a '.cpl'
extension. Dadinu creates a large number of files with a '.cpl' extension
in the root directory and the Windows directory of the infected computer.
These files are actually copies of the worm and are 236,032 bytes in
size.
In order to find out if a computer has been infected by
Dadinu, users should update the antivirus solution installed on their
computers and perform a full scan. Similarly, they can also use the
free disinfection utility PQRemove free of charge. This tool will
detect and deactivate Dadinu and
restore the parameters that it has modified in infected computers. It is
