The new Nikon 45mm F2.8 lens is a classic Tessar design. It is very compact
and weighs less than the Canon 50mm F1.8 at 108 grams or 4.2 ounces. If you
have ever used and good quality Tessar lens you will understand where this
lens fits. Remember the original 50mm F1.4 lens from Nikon? That was a
Sonnar deisgn that Nikon successfully copied. The advantage of the Tessar
is that stopped down it produces astonishingly sharp photos. Wide open
(even at F2.8) it can be soft for people shots. I for one wish Canon had a
40mm F2.8 Tessar type for EOS. I would be one of the first to buy it.
