I've had the 35-350 for about 3 years now. IMHO it is simply the best lens
canon has ever made. I love it. I shoot 95% of my photos with it. You
just can't beat the coverage you get with a 10x zoom. There are some trade
offs of course. Compared to the other L lenses the 35-350 isn't quite as
sharp. The 35-350 is also too slow for some things. The other downside is
the weight. This is a heavy lens, but I think most people adjust to its
size and weight without too much trouble.
If you are willing to trade a slight bit of sharpness and speed for the
convince of never having to change lenses, and never having to carry 2-3
lenses to cover the same focal length, then the 35-350 is for you. When I
do have to use it in dark conditions I just grab some faster film. The
35-350 with 800 ISO Fuji can handle most situations. I've also had good
results with the 35-350 in combination with my 550ex.
The push pull zoom feels alittle awkward at first, but it becomes natural
after some use. However, I'd suggest you try out the lens before you buy
it. Make sure you are conformable with the zoom, the size and the weight.
If you do decide to buy the 35-350 I think you'll be pleased. I know I love
mine, and I wouldn't trade it for the world. The only thing that would make
me get rid of my 35-350 is if Canon were to bring out a 35-350 L IS DO,
until then it will be on my EOS-3.
