Without checking the numbers, they sound about right.

It brings infinity to 500mm from the front of the lens,
which translates to about 82cm from the film plane with
the EF100-400 at 400mm. The closest focusing distance
is (by my own unscientific measurement) about 15cm closer.
So with it the usable range is 67-82cm from film plane,
or a working distance range of about 35 to 50cm.
