The thing that kills me most is the inconsistent shutter lag. If you
hold your finger on the shutter halfway, it is pretty quick when you
push the button (advance set to multiple firing) as long as the data
buffer isn't full, but if you don't hold the button halfway down, for
whatever reason, the lag is often much longer and is variable. Drives
me nuts when shooting wildlife or anything moving.
Also, when shooting against a blue sky or shooting a red object, some
bayer pattern artifacts can be seen (jaggies that are about 1/2 the
resolution of the overall capture). Setting custom functions is a
little cumbersome--you have to do it by scrolling through the menu to
find CFs, then scrolling through the CFs. It would be no problem if
mirror lockup and AF assist light weren't controlled through them
(assist light must be off or the headlight works and scares animals, but
must be on for the focus assist on the 550EX to work).
I think I would buy one again. I would *much* rather have a 6MP camera
or more, but I won't be able to afford it until the prices come down.
Digital camera evolution seems to be a fair amount slower for SLRs than
consumer digicams, unfortunately so it will probably be years before 6MP
cameras are common and reasonably priced.
