Did you see the explanation of the Evaluative meter pattern on the
Canon Japan website?
That seems to be closer to the Nikon "Automatic Multi-Pattern" metering.

To my simple way of thinking, it seems to be a type of centre-
weighted metering where the centre is the selected focussing point.
