I remember those days.  My first Canon was an FX in
1967--no TTL metering, just a little eye on the front
and a meter on the top.  Used the FL type lens.
Then in 1977 I added an FTBn, with the FD lens as 
you describe.

I sold 'em all to get into Olympus about 1983, but that's
a whole 'nother story +=<)B^)
