Given Canon's track record, I think that patience will be
rewarded. Remember when Minolta and Nikon came out with their AF systems
back in the 80s, it took Canon a while to respond but when they did they
managed to capture a large part of the pro and consumer markets. If the
rumors floating about regarding Canon's new pro digital camera are
true, they may do the same again.
