I find the 420EX a good compliment to the 550EX as it's so small you can
practically take it anywhere. I used it quite a bit as a slave unit to my
550EX during my 3 weeks in Spain. It's quite powerful actually (I used it to
light ceiliings in dark mezquitas) and the tilt/swivel comes in handy very
often. Sometimes when we went out just for dinner and I didn't want to bring
20lbs of equipment around, I'd just take my EOS30, 24-85mm lens and the 420.
If you look at both the 420 and the 550, you can tell the 420 is a chip of
the 550 since they are so similar -- just think of the 420 as the little
brother to the 550.
