Very interesting thread indeed.
I've a 50E and I've been thinking about the upgrade as well. I miss more
focusing points from where to partial meter in macro situations.
The AF-assist light is a funny story, much like a 4 sided coin (odd!). Did you
know or have noticed that the "much preffered" near-IR assist light of the 50(E)
is partly shadowed with the bigger lenses?. I've a 28-135 and it blocks the
whole left-most pattern and part of the central one, leaving me to focus with
the right AF point ONLY. (It will work sometimes with the central as well with
the shorter end of the lens. The more the lens extends, the less AF-assist
near-IR pattern I get !!).

So, maybe annoying, but the AF/assist light placed somewhere high with respect
to the lens is a GOOD approach.

I also like the IR-filter idea. a little piece of 89B should do fine. Buy the
cheaper Ilford SFX gelatine filter and scissor-it :-)

Regards,

Gerard.

PS: Sorry if somebody already mentioned the shadowed AF-assist I speak about.
I've read most but not all messages of the thread.
