This definately won't beat a 600/4. But I'm sure 70-200/2.8 x3 = 210-600/8
will have its applications (consumer grade 'soft-focus' tele ;^).
Will be interesting to compare the above setup at 600mm with Canon 300/4 and
Canon 2x. I often use the latter, and am satisfied with the results - both
the lens (pre-IS) and 2x are excellent pieces of glass. But so is my
70-200/2.8 with 2x... maybe the stretch to 3x is not that impossible -
200-600 is a usable range.. and the new 70-200 with IS will save you the 3
stops lost.
If anybody actually buy/test this 3x in future, keep us posted!
